Permits are not required for "cosmetic" remodels (floor or wall covering, cabinets, counter tops, shelving...) or plumbing fixture replacement.
Commercial Building Permits
Permits for new commercial construction require building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits. The building permit must be obtained before trade permit can be issued. Other requirements may need to be met before a building permit can be issued depending upon the property location, zoning, or based on design guidelines for the area.

Residential Building Permits
- Building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits are all required for new residential construction.
- Changing, moving or repairing walls, floors, ceilings etc. requires a Building Permit.
- Changing, moving or repairing electrical requires an Electrical Permit.
- Changing, moving or repairing mechanical requires a Mechanical Permit.
- Changing, moving or repairing plumbing requires a Plumbing permit.

Electrical, mechanical and plumbing fees include a Fee Estimation worksheet. You can estimate your building permit fees by selecting the Building Fee Estimator link.
You will need to know the occupancy code for commercial construction permit fee estimates. For residential, occupancy code R is for the dwelling structure and occupancy code U is for garage, carport or other structure.
