Modern Streetcar Study Information

The primary charge of the study committee was to determine the feasibility of developing a modern streetcar network in Fort Worth. The committee accomplished the following tasks:

  • Review Fort Worth’s previous streetcar studies
  • Review light rail and streetcar systems in peer cities
  • Conduct a preliminary assessment of costs and benefits, including  potential funding sources

The study committee determined that a streetcar system is desirable for Fort Worth and have identified:

  • A starter corridor.
  • Potential funding sources and a preliminary funding strategy
  • Next steps for implementation.

Recommendations of the study committee were presented to the Mayor and Council Dec. 16, 2008.
