The Birds (1963, Color, 120 min., widescreen, Rated PG-13)
October 4 at 2:00 p.m.
When beautiful blonde Tippi Hedren (in her first film) rolls into town in pursuit of eligible bachelor Rod Taylor, the residents of Bodega Bay are suddenly attacked by birds of all shapes and sizes. Based on the classic suspense story by Daphne du Maurier (Jamaica Inn and Rebecca), director Alfred Hitchcock’s follow-up to Psycho was responsible for numerous innovations in special effects and sound. Note the absence of a music score! Jessica Tandy and Suzanne Pleshette co-star. “Hold on to something and watch.” – Leonard Maltin

Murder, My Sweet (1944, B/W, 95 min., not rated)
November 1 at 2:00 p.m.
One-time movie crooner Dick Powell turned his career around with his portrayal of Philip Marlowe, the hard-boiled private detective hired by a dim-witted but dangerous thug to find his lost girlfriend. Splitting his search between high society haunts and cheap, smoky bars, Marlowe winds up on the wrong end of a fist, waking up to a drug-induced nightmare. Claire Trevor, Otto Kruger and Anne Shirley are but a few of the interesting faces in the cast. Author Raymond Chandler called Powell his favorite screen Marlowe.

The Polar Express (2004, Color, 100 min., widescreen, Rated G)
December 6 at 2:00 p.m.
Set in the 1950s Midwest, this instant holiday classic tells the tale of a young boy who wants to believe in Santa even though his friends have “grown out of it.” His faith is rewarded when on a snowy Christmas Eve, a steam train pulls up to his house and escorts him to the North Pole. Performance capture animation brings a digital Tom Hanks and other actors to life. Vintage holiday favorites are mixed with new songs, including the Oscar-nominated “Believe” sung by Josh Groban over the closing credits. An expansion of the picture book by Chris Van Allsburg.
