PHYSICAL ABILITY TEST (PAT) |  |
Each applicant referred from the written examination must pass a physical ability assessment, as prescribed by the Fort Worth Fire Department and approved by the Fort Worth Civil Service Commission, demonstrating that the applicant is physically capable of performing the essential job functions for the position of firefighter.
The examination consists of the following six events performed in succession with a pass/fail maximum time of 5 minutes 30 seconds.
Event #1 - Humat / Tool Bag Lift and Carry
A 34 pound humat valve attached to 100 feet of 4-inch hose and a 30 pound tool bag are picked up and carried 100 feet

Event #2 - Fan Lift and Carry
A 69 pound electric power blower is lifted and carried a distance of 100 feet. |

Event #3 - Ladder Extension
The fly (upper) section of a 35-foot vertically "fixed" extension ladder is extended to its highest position. | |

Event #4 - Hose Load Carry & Stair climb
The candidate ascends and descends a five story building carrying a 44-pound high rise pack. | |

Event #5 - Hose advance
A water charged 1 ¾ inch hose line laid out in a “S”pattern is pulled forward a distance of 100 feet. | |

Event #6 - Victim Rescue
A 175 pound rescue mannequin, in sitting position, is lifted and dragged 75 feet by walking backwards.
