Statement from Councilmember Kathleen Hicks regarding the Medical Examiner's ruling in the Michael Jacobs, Jr. case:

“Our community is extremely saddened by the loss of this young man’s life. We can’t begin to imagine the suffering his family has endured since the day of this terrible tragedy. I am glad the medical examiner has finally concluded his investigation, and I believe the grand jury will be able to make a final and unbiased decision on where this case goes from here. The Fort Worth Police Department has a long history of brave and professional service to people of Fort Worth. We will continue to monitor this case closely to make sure—at the conclusion of this investigation—Chief Halstead and his staff take the actions necessary to prevent this from happening again.”

For far too many years, Cobb Park (one of the largest parks in Fort Worth) has remained mostly untouched. But that's all about to change. After a diligent review by a citizen's advisory committee chaired by Mayor Pro Tem Kathleen Hicks, the Fort Worth Parks Board adopted the master plan in June of 2008. The master plan includes more than $25 million worth of improvements to the park. Phase I of the design and construction will begin this year, starting with a new park road.
